My name is Lynn Dancy, and I have a 10 year old granddaughter (Layla), who has Type1 Diabetes. She, along with her 2 siblings, attend the Lycee Francais, a private French school in Chicago.
I'm writing because Layla's class is going to Quebec, Canada next May, and initially, the school advised my daughter that Layla couldn't go because of her diabetes, and they didn't have anyone to accompany her to make sure her condition was attended to. Layla wears a pump, and a Dexcom to monitor her insulin levels at all time. She is very knowledgeable in caring for herself, but still needs an adult knowledgable in diabetes to look after her.
She has been looking forward to this trip for 3 years, and it would break her heart if she couldn't attend with the rest of her classmates.
I would like to ask if there might be one of your nursing students who would be open to accompanying Layla on her trip to Canada?
The school is obligated to provide an aide for Layla, so it wouldn't be at any cost to the volunteer nurse.
I would appreciate if you could share this email with your nursing students who might be interested. They would make one little girl VERY happy!
